My name is Little Miss Sugardrop. I'm a 6 year-old quarter horse, and my mom owns and operates Sugardrop Farms. I've lived here since I was born in 2005. That's when my mom decided to leave the corporate world and do what she REALLY loves-spend every day with us furry creatures! Since I was her first baby horse, she named her business after ME! I have 3 other horse sisters and brothers, and then 4 dogs and 2 cats are part of our family too. We live on 10 acres and everything is all set up to take care of other people's furry creatures, too. My dad said my mom couldn't have any more PERMANENT, furry, family members, so she gets around that by taking care of "temporary" furry family members. My dad is okay with that, since he loves all us furry critters just as much as mom does. Everyone that comes to stay with us becomes part of our family even though they go home after a few days. But they always come back to visit again and again. If for any reason your pet(s) needs veterinary care, we will transport them with your written permission and waiver. We can provide excellent references from a variety of pet owners-as we have experience caring for dogs, cats, goats, horses, chickens, etc. If your pet has special needs, please let us know so we may accommodate them. We have no problem administering medication(s) at no extra charge.
My mom will also go take care of furry critters at THEIR home since we only take care of critters here 25 lbs. and under. That's because mom lets everyone that visits here sleep in her bed, watch TV on the furniture and hang out with her and my other 4 dog brothers and sisters ( oh yeah, there are 2 cats also, but usually they stay out of everyone's way). So, we have to keep it on the small scale and that way there's room for everyone in the bed! We also want to keep everyone within the same size/weight so no one gets accidentally hurt by a critter that might be bigger than them. So, for the critters that are a little bigger than 25 lbs. mom will go to their house and care for them.
Our place is licensed and approved by the State of Georgia. Mom has certification in pet care and safety training. Years ago she was a nurse, so that can come in handy, too. The entire area that is used for our visitors has safety fencing and all gates are secured. We have a very hi-tech security system on our entire property with cameras, alarms and even infrared detection! I really don't know what all that means, but my dad says it's very sophisticated and keeps us all safe. Our visitors that come to stay with us don't have to stay in cages or kennels. They get to be with my mom and the rest of the family all day. They all go outside and play together and when they are inside they get treats and belly rubs! No one is ever left alone outside or together without supervision. There's a BIG playroom inside where everyone gets to either play or lounge around. It's big enough to chase a ball just in case the weather isn't nice outside.
At night, there are different sleeping arrangements depending on the visiting furry critter's individual needs. Sometimes they are used to sleeping in their crate at home, and mom lets them have their own space. Sometimes they get to sleep with mom and dad if everyone else sleeping in the bed is okay with it. If we have a new visitor staying with us for the first time, they get the special treatment for a little while. They are separated at first until everyone is properly introduced and had time to “sniff” each other through a room divider. They can still see each other, but can't have complete contact just yet. This takes anywhere from 5 minutes to 12 hours. After mom sees that everyone is exhibiting proper etiquette and showing no aggression, she will then let them be together with very close supervision. But it's never long before everyone is playing together, getting along and falling into the routine. Just remember, due to the weight limit of 25 lbs. , no visiting critters will be exposed to any other critters much bigger than they. This keeps everyone on equal ground! Of course, if you prefer your pet have his/her own private area for their stay, mom can accommodate that as well.
Sometimes we have kitties come stay with us, but mostly it's dogs. However, when kitties come to visit, they get their very own room away from everyone else. I think they like it better that way.
Of course, our pet sitting visit service is available to all size pets. Mom has so much experience with dogs, cats, horses and all types of farm animals. She's had horses, dogs and cats her whole life. If you want mom to come to your home, she usually makes up to 3 visits per day. These visits include feeding, walking, playing, and giving lots of love and attention. She will bring in your mail, turn lights off and on, and water plants. She never charges extra for attention, or charges extra for time spent over a certain amount (within reason, of course). She stays (usually about 20-30 mins.) with your pets until they seem to be at ease and content with the situation. Sometimes certain pets need some extra love and attention if they seem stressed or depressed. Mom has no problem giving that extra tummy rub or throwing the ball one more time.
In special circumstances and if schedule allows, mom also does overnight stays in your home.
